Took delivery this mornign of two gencon all-in-one head collars - basically a halti and lead all in one

taken both dogs (aka thomas and percy!! laugh.gif ) on a road walk - able to walk most of way holding the leads with one finger!! and NO riding up into their eyes!!!!

Delivery was fantastically quick and Irene the designer is very helpful

must admit i was looking into getting one of those, but i was given a gentle leader. would you say they were better than the gentle leader then?

personally we never tried a gentle leader - we have been using a 'halti' which I beleive is pretty much identical though

The best thing about the gencon is that it is the head collar and lead in one piece so its not so much farting around when you want to take them off
the only adjustment I made was to attach the halti links to the gencon for extra security (you know, the bit that clips to the collar for added security)

I'll post some piccies later if I get chance, or might be tomorrow.

I'm so bored farting around with our canny collar, and Charlie is still a two legged piggy sounding kangaroo when he's on it.. so I've put in an order for an all in one!
It's got to be worth a try!!

I THINK IT'S MAGIC biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

but Charlie boy might work out some method.. I'll keep you informed...

(we've tried haltis, gentle leaders, canny collars...and more I've forgotten!)

Look forward to hearing how you get on - Rosie has a gentle leader which is ok but I have to check it does not ride up near her eyes.

Can you fasten your own lead on as I have various lengths of leads, depending where were are going to walk etc (Rosie is always kept on her long lead as she can be unpredicable especially if she gets distracted). rolleyes.gif

not on the all-in-one you can't - but i belevie they do a seperate head collar

After a week away with Charlie, we've given him a bath and in checking him over, he's been rubbed sore on his neck and has a scab there.
He's been on his lead for hours more than he normally is, with wandering about new places. i guess that's just what it is, unless I'm using it totally wrong?
Don't want to give up on the gencon, really like it, but don't want to hurt the boy. I hope it'll heal up soon sad.gif

Ouch but I think it may be that, sorry I am known for not been a big fan of contraptions or aids.

I had everything known to man, cried in pain when I took them both out, down to a dodgy shoulder. I threw em all in the bin and trained.

It sounds easy in a post, its not it takes time and effort, then a lot more time. Then a lifetime. Mine aren't brill on the intial set off but after a burst walk like a dream.

Top tip, do the training after a good run.

My two have been on gencons all week and they havent rubbed them at all.

Jasper has an old wound from his halti headcollar that gushed blood whilst we were away where he sratches it with his dew claws - but the gencon is proving fantastic - they dont even try pulling half the time.

The theory now is that they'll get used to walking nicely and eventually we'll be able to go to lead and collar.

The gencon is definately no substitute for training and I never suggested it would be - you still need to put in the time and effort to get them walking nicely.

After a run my two walk like a dream too - but that doesnt mean i'll put up with them pulling before their run - the gencon is proving a fantastic training aid for walking to heal

The halti rubbed Charlie too, but now we're home and back to smaller amounts of lead walking, his neck seems better. I would love more than anything for him to walk properly on a normal lead, and one day we might get there! Until then, for day to day life, kids and other dogs to get up to the fields too, I need a coping strategy!! In a training scenario, in obedience classes or agility, he can be good as gold! But the gencon is definately helping, and hopefully he might get the idea to transter those skills.. one day! rolleyes.gif

How are you finding your Gencon a couple of months on?

cornishpride- 08-15-2007
excellant!!! best invetment yet - they both get so excited on their way to walkies that they still try and get the nose band off but they soon forget about it once they've had their run.
we took them on holiday for a week and did lots of street walking with them, the gencons were just what we needed - made it so much easier.
