I usually feed a tin of mackeral or sardines in olive oil once a week. Is it ok to feed more than this as Oliver loves this so much i think he would do a double somersault for it!
Also when i gave him offal this week his poo was jet black, so i wondered if this is a bad thing.

Yeh we probably give Toffee tin of sardines couple of times a month-usually when I've forgotten to defrost Toff raw meat!!!! biggrin.gif

Doesn't seem to have any side effects

Mine have tin pichards at least once a week.

When I was fishing for a living my dogs at the time would be fed fish, Flounder, Conger, Pollack, Mackerel, Whiting, just plain boiled and boned. Never did them any harm at all.

Added a bit of oil and some biscuit and that was it.

I think you could safely give yours fish twice a week without any problems.

Offal tends to be rich in blood hence the black poop. Mine all had hearts yesterday (ok not technically classed as offal) but I know it today as all poop is black and slightly looser.

Nope. Poo colour depends upon what you feed - so dogs fed on white meat only (whether fresh or as kibble) tend to have yellowish poo, green veggies in large amount can give it a greenish tint, and red meat turns it darker. Offal is mostly very dark red meat, so poo is dark. If you feed lean red muscle meat without bone, you'll have very dark poos too.

Excess bone turns poo lighter again (up to the alarming white bone poo), so the whole thing is a nice puzzle with many variables! tongue.gif

rolleyes.gif Ours love sardines/pilchards which I often make into sardine 'cake' for treats - they also have 'fish4dogs' biscuits and salmon based kibble so a very fishy family - all look great on it - good for Max's joint probs (loves a tin of sardines too) and nice shiny coats. Also I will feed white fish (plain) with rice or potato sometimes especially if any tummy probs. All poo watching confirms previous comments. And I also add veg to their diets too - all love brocoli and green beans.
I guess if its good for me its good for them 2!
