Hi all just want a little bit of advice with our little one Poppy, my mum has two dogs and as we thought it would be nice to walk with them together ect. and decided now Poppy has had all her injections to let them meet. We did it on nutural ground but mum's youngest went wild and was snapping and growling at Poppy and made her wee herself with fright! sad.gif She really was awful and im sure would have happily eaten Poppy if left alone together. The eldest dog wasnt bothered by Poppy at all at first, but once Milly had had a go at her so started to snap also, although in a more your being warned way. What do you guys think I should do? Im happy just to never let them meet again as it scarred me so much, but we are off on holiday with another dog in a few weeks and im now worried this one will behave the same with her. They have met before when Poppy was tiny and she wasnt bothered but now Poppy is older and a bit more bouncy it could be more of a problem. I just dont want all of Poppies experiences with other dogs to be bad ones, as even yesterday in the park another dog was barking and snapping at her, and even bit another of the dogs on the field. Its owner had no control even on the lead! Im thinking of getting one of the pet correctors but im now wondering if its something in my body language or what I am doing setting the other dogs off.
Any advice would help biggrin.gif

Mum has Milly a Lab (she is the meanest with Poppy) and Sheeba is anyones guess laugh.gif
A pet correcter is like a hairspray can that you press to stop dogs in their tracks. It gives out a high whistle sound from what I can gather but Im not sure how reliable it is as ive not heard any feed back about them.

What is Milly usually like with puppies? Some dogs are really scared of them which can provoke awful reactions like that.

The dog you are going on holiday with - what is that dog usually like with puppies?

How many dogs has Poppy met so far?

It seems really unlikely to me that you or Poppy are doing anything wrong. That said, if every dog Poppy meets has a go at her, I'd take her to the vet for a checkup. I know a lady who discovered that her dog was ill because dogs kept on attacking her.

I know people who use pet correct sprays to deter oncoming dogs and I think they can work well. But Poppy really needs to be meeting other dogs not having them scared away from her. And pet correct sprays are pretty loud. You'd have to be sure the spray didn't scare Poppy.

Where do you live? Do you have anybody nearby with a steady dog who could meet up with you and Poppy for some socialising.

ETA: How old is Poppy? I'm assuming she's a very young puppy.

Bring her to meet Jimpy-Wimpy! We live in Donisthorpe. Maybe a bit far..... but second what others said - take her to meet some doggies you know are friendly!

we're having a big springy walk in Derby this weekend... any good?

AWH Poppy i'm sure you'll get to meet some nice friends.

As the older dog seemed to accept Poppy at first. Could try walks only with Sheeba first & see if these 2 can become friends. If Sheeba plays with Poppy you could then try sitting Milly in the background while she watches these 2 play, and slowly introduce her back to Poppy.

Thanks guys, we went on a walk yesterday and met a couple of dogs that were lovely with her biggrin.gif so fingers crossed that will boost her confidence.
We would love to come to the Derby meet, but OH is off to watch the england v south africa match on sat. So im guessing he is going to be in no fit state to walk home never mind anything else. But I will keep on at him wink.gif

Ghillie has had some nasty experiences with other dogs but it hasn't dampened his enthusiasm for meeting new friends..he still goes in feet first.

They are a lot tougher than we give them credit for
