Hi, I'm Laura and new to the forum! Need some advice....

I pick up a little 8 week old Springer on Monday and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how we should go about introducing him to our 5 year old Greyhound? It is one of the things that is concerning me as she still has an intermittent chase instinct and I don't want her to think he is prey! unsure.gif

I read an article which suggested introducing them on the lead, in the garden and let them sniff eachother and then if that goes OK, let the puppy wander around but keep the older dog on the lead - has anyone done this?

Any suggestions or advice would be great.

I keenly await your posts!

Hi Laura

Good to see you made it over. I am sure there will be plenty advice for you before the end of the day. It's sunny at the moment so many will be out with their dogs. smile.gif

Have you decided on a name yet? Have you got a crate so he has a safe place?

Crates and puppies go very well together biggrin.gif

Hi Cath

Yes, he will be Jasper. I can't wait to bring him home, just wish he was toilet trained!

Yes, we have invested in a crate so he has his safe place. Also means he can sleep in the kitchen with the cats over night but not be harassed!

When Chase came home he stayed in his crate for the first intro with Brice, so Brice just sniffed and realised there was a small thing in there.

Next day I popped little one in the garden and let him wander (and in the conservatory) and Brice was brought out. As you can see from the pics even at 7 weeks the tyke had attitude and Brice was great. They are now bes-*test*-('") mates and play for hours.

Thanks for the advice, may try the crate thing followed by the garden! Wonderful pictures too!

I have to say I can't wait to have a spaniel. Ellie is great but she is the laziest dog in the world and just sleeps all day. I am hoping Jasper will bring out some puppy in her!

I would do as above - pup in crate for first intros. Then when you feel it's ok, I would muzzle your greyhound - just to be on the safe side - and let them meet, possibly keeping the greyhound on a loose longish lead in the garden. Don't leave them alone together for a while obviously - same as with any new pup to any household. smile.gif
