I just wanted to tell everyone who posts here my story, in the hope that it will bring you comfort.

About five years ago I owned a border collie who was a rescue dog from the RSPCA. We had adopted her when she was about six months old, and like many rescue dogs, she always appeared grateful, and was a lovely pet.

In her older years we moved to Cornwall, where she became very popular with all the neighbours. She would go to "work" with the farmer after his own dog died, bringing him comfort in his loss. She had many other friends, but the most special was my neighbour, Sylvia, who regularly had her when I was working.

Bess was nearly fifteen when she died. Until the day before her death she had been very fit and active, and there were no signs that this was imminent.
The following day I went to Sylvia's house to break the news, and as I got to her gate I could see that she was sat in the garden with her husband.
As I went to open the gate, she said to me "Oh, I have been waiting for you, my dear, you have some sad news, haven't you?"
She then told me that the evening before, she had felt Bess brush past her legs. She knew instantly that she had died, and was passing over. Amazingly, she had told me that "Coronation Street" was just finishing. She had died at exactly 8pm.

The next day Sylvia's cat, who had never been in my house, came in the kitchen and stared for several moments where Bess had her bed, which was no longer there. She turned slowly and walked out. I do believe she was paying her respects. She never came in the house again.

I am touched by the number of people who write "run free"
I am personally convinced that they do.

what a lovely story. i sometimes hear my benson running up the stairs and jumping on my bed (which was one of his fave things to do esp if he was muddy dry.gif !). i also find white feathers in the house, dont know if that means anything, but brings comfort to me that he's still around looking over me, sam and bronte....

Lovely story smile.gif
One of my first pets was a cat called Smokey. Whom used to always sit in the window waiting for me to come home from school, mum always said she knew about 10 mins before i came in the door i was on my way home, even when i stopped late at school because of school trips and detention ph34r.gif etc. When i got a place of my own in my 20s she was 14, so it was unfair to move her & she stayed with my parents knowing when i was on my way to visit. She lived to the age of 21 & passed away peacefully, 2 days after my daughter was born, it was as though she had waited till i had someone special in my life to help replace her. When i went to my parents and was nursing my daughter it felt like she was at the side of us purring away & watching us.
