Hi,

Does anyone elses springer dig holes in the garden? Anything we can do to deter them? I play with her, give her a kong filled with food, take her for long walks, talk to her (Sophie is 18 weeks old), other than this she is perfect!

Thanks!

Gillian

ours did, there's a few threads about this so you're not alone!

We eventually we found something he really really can't stand the smell of then popped it into the holes as soon as he starts.

And what is this mysterious object......his own poo!!!!

Ollie used to dig but doesnt seem to bother anymore. We could never put his poo in the holes though as he used to like to eat his own poo! biggrin.gif

Sally doesn't dig in the garden strangely enough...but when we're out she will dig to the other end of the world! This mornign on our walk the other dog walkers found it hilarious as she was covered in mud top to bottom and I had to wash her before work dry.gif

So you're not alone smile.gif

Fipps used to looooooooooooove to dig when she was a puppy. We always kept an eye on her and when she started we verbally discouraged her and if she didn't listen she was put back into the house. She eventually stopped doing it and now never does it biggrin.gif , well very very rarely rolleyes.gif

Dusty loves to dig but unfortunatly its not outside he finds it much more amusing to dig our new cream carpet in the living room!! laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Is just as well he is very very cute laugh.gif laugh.gif

Ask Selina about Vinnie digging... You can't ask Vinnie, he would deny all knowledge! He has a couple of holes in his run, but seems to have stopped working on them recently. I know he can't dig his way out, and promised him nothing bad would ever happen in his run, so don't stop him digging in there.

My Tessa always in her 14 years dug a hole in the garden to lie in. It has something to do with going back to there wild roots, like sheltering form their foe. Tessa also dug up her bed and in her later years tired to dig holes in my carpets toooooooo

Rhian loves digging (mainly for mice and moles) and of course tried to to so in the garden. But as she is never allowed there unsupervised, I can always stop it.

Well, nearly always. cool.gif

If I'm eating a delicous dinner in the garden and she disappears around the corner of the house to the front garden, I can't be bothered immediately! laugh.gif But if she doesn't reappear for a while I'll go and stop any excavations! dry.gif

So gardens are not for peeing or digging, just for rolling and running around. That works very well and Rhian can enjoy her digging frenzies in appropriate outside areas.

Lola loves to dig, not too much in the garden as we can keep an eye on her, but when we went on holiday to scotland she insisted on digging a moat around us!! she also likes digging to china on the bed. As long as she doesnt mess the garden up were not bothered!!!

ohmy.gif Stanley digs when he get frustrated but we made him a digging pit (little sand pit) and direct him there when he has a go to save the garden. Although he does not do it much now. Noticed GUH dug himself a couple of 'dens' in the plants for the first few days with us but now they are made he just sits in them!

Rosie's Slave- 09-19-2008
Rosie loves to dig - sometimes she does not dig for weeks and then she has days when she digs ever time she goes out so we have now fenced off the back and. she has her own little area that she can dig whenever she wants. She seems to get so much enjoyment digging, the only thing that annoys me is that she sometimes picks up the remote control if its not on top of the tv and puts it in the hole she has dug. wink.gif
