Hi everyone, our pup bindi absolutely hates her crate and she wont go in it. She has kept me up the last two nights screaming from with in it. Otherwise she has settled in well and can now sit on command at nine weeks old.
thanks.

How did you introduce her to the crate - do you give her all treats and food in the open crate? Where is the crate standing? A bit more info might help folks to give advice to the point. wink.gif

At 9 weeks she is still young and getting used to new things, so try to make it as pleasurable as possible experience. Use an old jumper with your smell on it. I don't know where you plan on keeping the crate in the long run but initially try and keep it in a social area like the living room so she doesn't feel excluded. use a favourite treat or toy and start playing then toss it in the crate - hopefully she will go in and get her treat. Whatever you do don't close the door, she needs to get used to it first.

Don't use it as punishment crate.

Holly went mad when I first put her in her crate, so I put her bed in there and left the door open. At first I left the door open and each time she went to bed I closed it a bit more until it was fully closed and of course lots of rewards after. It did not take too long as puppy's sleep a lot.

When I first had my puppy we fed him in the crate and only associated it with nice things smile.gif I also put the crate in my room overnight to start off with for the first few nights and then gradually moved it back downstairs as he got used to the idea wink.gif

Not exactly ideal but he didn't keep me awake crying after that biggrin.gif

Thanks at the moment it is in the kitchen where most of the family spend most of their time in there. I put treats in there and tell her to sit and teach her paw etc. I think it is getting better because she keeps goin in there to look for treats.

Well done! You will get there, just don't be in a rush to close the door on her. Do it gradually, if you have taught the wait/stay command try using that next time she is in there even if it is just a mintue then loads of praise. Day by day just push the door closed a little bit more, then progress on to shutting the door while you are in the kitchen ie cooking or eating.

Good luck
