I've been feeding raw for just over a few days now - I've kept bone intake down initially to try and avoid constipation but neither Jack or Bella have had a poo today and only one of them (not sure which) had one last night. Is there anything I can feed them which may help?

If your dog or cat is having the occasional case of constipation or diarrhea, one of the things that might help is canned pumpkin. Yes canned pumpkin in its pureed form (NOT pumpkin pie filling) is a fantastic stool softener which makes it a good natural remedy for constipation. It often helps with upset stomach or indigestion for both cats and dogs. It is very rich in fibre and adding just one or two teaspoonfuls to your pet's food often gets the system moving in no time. Dogs will occasionally want to eat it directly and that's fine too. Sometimes though, finicky cats and dogs won't touch it no matter what you do.

On the opposite end of things is diarrhea. Since the dietary fibre in canned pumpkin absorbs water, it can be a great help to a cat or dog that has diarrhea. Some pet owners report that it firms up their pet's loose stools or diarrhea within a few hours. Again one to two teaspoonfuls is all that is needed.

Hope this helps yah out some.

wink.gif Please don't worry if they don't poo every day. A few of mine will go a day or even 2 without having a poo, it's not a case of constipation, it's just that they don't need to poo out as much as they do if they were fed kibble, less waste you see biggrin.gif
Remi often goes a couple of days without going and he's not constipated.

Now if they are trying to go and are straining a lot then that's constipation, if that's the case feed more meat and leave the bones out for a few days wink.gif

Now you're seeing one of the benefits of feeding raw food, less deposits due to the fact that they use the food they eat and don't need to poo out great big piles of kibble wink.gif

I've been raw feeding for a few weeks and I have been worried about constipation. If I notice they seem to be struggling, I've been cutting out bones the next day and feeding liver and heart. I think I'm getting there, but I'll be looking out for canned pumkin.
