The little man is kept outdoors, he,s very well (touch wood) and has grown the coat he needs as I was advised he would, this is very nice but he is now moulting.

Any advice from anyone who houses their dogs in a similar fashion

Do you let them moult naturally or have them clipped for the spring ???

Heather and Brandy used to be housed outside and since we moved all are now kept indoors. We have only had them trimmed by a groomer once but no clipping, I now trim and groom them all myself, general brush up and weekly comb with elastic band and tidy up trim....yes they moult.... rolleyes.gif I have a very fetching springer haired fleecy biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Cheers Steve
I was thinking about having him trimmed for the spring ( when it arrives) just to assist the moulting process, Yep I too possess a springer angorra fleece and trousers wink.gif tongue.gif

Jack needs to be clipped (maybe twice a year) - he doesn't seem to moult on this liver bits at all and as he is mostly liver he ends up resembleing something like highland cattle. I would have to spend all day every day grooming/stripping in order to sort him without clipping. Not only does his coat grow outwards so he looks like a table top (even though he is officially currently underweight) his gorgous dark liver goes ginger so he doesn't look half has handsome. I have to say though that this problem only occured after his little boy op, prior to this he had a lovely coat that needed very little care.

I also clipped Woody until he was around 10 yrs old, he didn't seem to moult much either. When he got to about 10 his coat seemed to change (must be the hormones) and he looked great without (he still hardly moulted though).

Bella on the other hand (who is mainly white - not sure if this has any bearing) moults terribly dog hairs have never been such a problem, they are everywhere. I won't be clipping her yet (if at all) though as she hasn't really got her proper coat yet.

He,s mostly white as well unsure.gif

If it's any help, Dex is an outdoor dog too, when he starts to moult, I comb him most days but when it gets to THAT point that I can stand it no more then I give him the once over with a Coat King.

This seems to strip out the loose, moulting coat without affecting his summer coat, I guess you would get the same effect with a comb and elastic band but with a bit more elbow grease required.

Good Luck

Deb

Oh, and I also have some very furry clothes too, I hope PETA don't think I'm wearing fur as a fashion statement!!!

Yep, same here... Charlie was never a problem with dark hair (he was a mostly black dog), Millie has a lot of liver and sheds few hairs...

These boys have been a real shock to the system... ohmy.gif They are both mostly white, with just spots over their tails, and there are dog hairs everywhere!!!! Gets me down a bit really cos never had to put up with this, but now they are moulting as well, it's horrendous!

Just for my sanity, cos when you're getting dog hairs in the fridge and on the cooker, it's a bit much rolleyes.gif , they have to be clipped and taken back short and then for mum to keep up to the grooming to try and keep it to a minimum...

Thank god for leather sofas and wooden floors, so the room is manageable... But Sonny sleeps on a bit of the middle landing at the bottom of a set of stairs, and the carpet is a chocolate brown bit there, but this week it's now almost pure white... sad.gif despite being vac'd everyday it's so hard cos you can stroke him and end up with a palm full of white hairs...

I've even had to stop wearing black sad.gif laugh.gif No good for my goth inner being... lol

I've always thought the whites are worse...

Noooooooo to clipping ! wink.gif

Having had two that before I knew different I clipped to having three which I don't.

All with different coats and colours, ok Sam's a wee young to judge but Tobes would be a mare if I didn't keep on top of him.

Springys IMHO shouldn't be Shaun like Sheep smile.gif

Well it does depend on the coat, if it has blown, then you can either have a springy who looks more like a burst sofa than a springer or a springer with nice clipped coat biggrin.gif

must admit, mine dont moult alot and we noticed so much hair when Chan was here, mostly white, and then I did notice that Liz's white lot cast way more than mine, yet all are groomed often, fed similar diets etc.
I do think the white coats must moult alot more

Jan's coat had blown and she defo resembled a burst sofa - had to resort to getting her clipped and to my mind she is a lot more comfortable now plus she looks very smart with her clipped coat.

Finn and Tia have totally different coats - good brushing and use of the Coat King keeps them looking smart biggrin.gif

Nope wink.gif

But when the fur is, as Mary says, like a big old burst cushion and your boys look like ragamuffins then yep def the way to go... plus I do believe they feel better when their blown coat is taken back...

I never knew that neutering affected coat... both of these boys were done before I got them, and I do think maybe that has something to do with their coats - they're horrendous!

They do look much better and smart when they've been clipped... However! When they're done this time I do want to try and keep up on it and reduce the need for clipping... they're done probably 3 times a year, would love to get that down to one or none if I'm honest... depends on what a hash I make of it laugh.gif

Jacks a burst sofa - he looks dreadful when not clipped and no amount of grooming (either at home or professionally) seems to make an difference.

What causes a coat to 'blow'? unsure.gif
