hey all...

Hendrix has been doing GREAT on his new diet, mind you its mostly meat and bones... not so much veggies... Anyway... I had been given a bunch of shicken legs for my family and there are some that have a little freezer burn on them. So I was wondering if it was ok to give these to hendrix. I seem to have lost my list of meats and bones he can have... If anyone *cough* Christine*cough* could send me another list I'd be very greatful.
Thanks
Erin

Can't help with the list but just so as the little fella isn't left drooling at the chicken legs.....I feed ours chicken legs and sometimes they get them frozen direct from the freezer (takes them a little longer to eat as they have to really gnaw and chew on them )....so my advice go on just as long as we are deffo talking raw and most certainly not cooked...of course wink.gif

Thanks Steve-o.... So you just give them it frozen??? and they eat it?!?! wow! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif smile.gif

Yup most times,

I was surprised at how quickly they made the things disappear rolleyes.gif and then came back for more .....so giving them frozen has slowed things down a little and there is now more crunching and gnawing going on biggrin.gif

Hi
My two have been eating their food frozen for 2 years. I just run their food under warm water to get rid of any frost and ice . They actually prefer frozen chicken and dottie wont eat it when its thawed.

i give mine frozen too sometimes. they woof it up, and it does take a little longer for them to eat.....but not much! biggrin.gif

Totally agree, I always have chicken legs in freezer, but have always defrosted first, I'll remember this tip, thanks everyone. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Just another little tip.....For those who can get their hands on rabbits cheaply and like us don't enjoy the mess of cutting them up, stick them in the freezer and cut them up whilst they're frozen then give 'em straight to your springies.....seems to work a treat too wink.gif

Just one word of warning.....

I was advised not to feed meat frozen to Brice after he had bloated (and also not to give ice cubes in his water) as it is too much of a 'shock' to the digestive system. If any of the meat has not defrosted fully I always make sure he hasn't got the really cold stuff.

Now this has been said to me by a number of people including my vet but I can't find any specific evidence so I may be being too 'protective' but I'm not taking chances with him.

All the others will have pretty cold meat at times.

Interesting. Now do you think that applies to frozen kongs too, or just to bones/meat?

Sir Freddy- 07-11-2008
I don't feed frozen kongs to my lot for a whole different reason - Freddy guards them and I want no flashpoint for aggression rolleyes.gif .

If it is well packed and the dog is taking a good while to lick it empty then I can't see a problem, I was advised not to let him have stuff that would hit his stomach that cold. I have given him ice-cream on a hot day but in a tub that I held while he licked so I was controlling how much he got and how quick he got it!!

I guess my question has helped a lot fo people out...

I just gave hendrix a frozen chicken leg... My fiance (who isn't home) was freaking out because of what cooked chicken can do to a pet... I told him it was ok... but he still said no.. SOOO while hes at work.. no harm in giving him some chicken wink.gif he loves it .... AND since he came back from the kennel hes started barking.. never did this before... so hes busy eating the chicken right now and not barking... now I can clean my floors! MAH HAHAHAHA laugh.gif
