When did he go swimming ? And where ?

He went swimming in the River Dee near where we live (pretty fast flowing and always used to swim there almost daily so OH thought it would be ok - plus Tigs didnt really wait for permission!)
and it was last week so prob approx seven days ago.

Do you think the water has hindered the healing? Although other people have answered on here saying they dont even leave the lampshade on, never mind restrict where the dog walks etc, so Im assuming their dogs have been allowed to swim?

Maybe I should give him a good bath and try lightly cleaning the area with a hibiscrub dilution?

If you have CS then use that, if you haven't then give me a nod wink.gif

How's the other wound ? If thats ok, get the lampshade off him and let him have a good clean, 4 weeks is a long time wink.gif

If it helps Bams were a lot angrier than that, we CS'd had his collar on a week and let nature take its course.

TBH I doubt swimming at 3 weeks down the line will have been an issue. Just let him free of his lampshade and leave well alone unless he licks it raw. If he does then I think it would be worth a vet visit as he should be healed by now.

As I said previously though a little spotting if he lifts a scab though don't fret.

Thanks all.
In the past couple of days when he's had the dreaded 'shade' off (eating, playing and walking locally) he has left his shoulder alone. Prior to that he was constantly at it every minute he could. So I am hopeful that is sorted so yes, the shade can go. You can all cheer! wink.gif

As for CS Fuddles, I just googled it and its collodial silver, is that right? But no I dont have any, is it a natural remedy?

(He does thank you though as he loves his new favourite treat of tuna bread. He had some with a meal and then had the remainder frozen in a kong for his supper. biggrin.gif )

our little lad was done 10 days ago tomorrow, he is back to normal, no lampshade after the op etc
i would go and see the vet

UPDATE

Well the consensus was to remove the 'cone' as its fondly become known in this house (as in 'here come cone head - teenagers! rolleyes.gif ) so took it off last night while me and OH were both with Tigs watching TV.
Lost count of the amount of times he licked/nibbled/bit at his stitches and scabs ohmy.gif but we perservered and kept telling him to Leave and distracting him. He made it look very lumpy and rather swollen and pink but I took him up to bed with me hoping it would be calmer looking by morning.

He woke me at 6am ph34r.gif and I wasn't amused (usually doesnt budge til I get up at 7.30. I need my REM sleep! Hell , I need any sleep that's going. LOL. ). He was licking it like crazy for about half an hour and just as I thought about searching for the 'cone' he decided to lie back down.

Now his bits look much better and he has stopped messing with them.

He is going for a proper run later on so he will love that. wink.gif

However, mad.gif I suspect that a neighbours cat has decided to use my back doorstep as its toilet!!! Plus do I need to tell you what Tigger did with it? I suspect that I don't as I'm sure they're all the same with smelly things. rolleyes.gif Yup, he promptly rolled in it. :vomit smilie:

Huge thanks to all of you and a grateful lick from cone head.

(PS Anyone know how I can stop this cat from pooping on my doorstep??)

glad he's getting sorted... as for the cat... they hate orange peel if thats any help! (or lion poo from available on the net) - but probably worse than the original cat poo if he rolls in it! biggrin.gif

LOL Imagine the size of lion poo!

Does anyone know if orange peel is problematic for dogs too or would I be ok scattering it around the back garden?
