Furminators only work on certain Springer coats, not on dense long coats, but the likes of Rubys fine fluffy dead coat, then it would work, but when I ran Liz's over Dobbie's coat it sounded awful and certainly was just tearing good coat - needs to be soft dead coat only.
PS Furminators can be bought cheap on ebay

A fair bit cheaper too dry.gif

Sandy as, you say I thought naaah but fortunalty Mary was on had for advice so I went for it biggrin.gif

As you may or may not be aware I groom the boys pretty regualar, well once a week rolleyes.gif so I was really non plussed on what came off them, some even off Jack who is a sleek boy.

Mind Jack just loves the attention, Tobes goes to sleep and Bam argues with it.

Just been waiting to see if there were any after affects before shouting about it and a month down the line, their coats look fab,

Its not an every dayer tho, I still stick to the comb and 'lastic band wink.gif

I bought my furminator from ebay, the blue one like Liz has, I tried it, thought it was a waste of money for my dogs, wrong coats completely, so flogged it for a tenner, so not a big waste of time. tongue.gif

Duggy has that type of coat on his hind legs and it only shows when he is growing out his la-*test*-('") groom. When it gets really bad he gets legs, all fluffy and fuzzy but really really soft and fine. For some reason I call him Goat Duggy, thinking it is a bit like the fluff on a goat. And then I call to groomer. rolleyes.gif

thing is, a good groomer will sort out your Springers coat in next to no time, if you dont want them clipped then a good groomer will use thinning scissors etc and tify a coat right up, you are right, if in doubt call a groomer.

Thanks for the replies, Harry is still a baby I suppose (9 months) his coat is longish but fine, I snip round his ears and cut the long bits off, then use thinning scissors, and use thinning scissors on the feathers on his legs, trim his nails and cut the hair on his feet, probably done it about 3 times in his life so far. He loves it to be honest, just not sure whether to have him castrated or not yet and thought this could come into the equation.

Thanks again

off to google a furminator - blinking heck sounds serious does that tongue.gif

comb and elastic band seems to work well in some places - like down her spine but the sides are bad and where the white turns to liver it is horrid - very downy and grows out about 1/2 cm out from the white bits

i noticed yesterday when i was comb and banding it that she has very dry skin which was flaking like dandruff so maybe her diet is lacking too -

what is recommended here - she is currently on Chudleys working crunch - she has a raw egg about 2 / 3 times a week on its own - do you suggest some olive olive on her dinner or some oily fish????

her white bits head and ears are fine smile.gif

she seems to love the comb and band - i have a coat king (copy) which has 12 blades on it which works well on her ears and tail and feathers but glides straight over her body

oh and i dont want to clip her if i can help it

I went Medium because the small one, like Liz got, is only the same size a me stripping knife, the big one was to cumbersome, nay I mean expensive wink.gif

Re adding stuff to the Chudleys ( they have the same too, tis like a parellel universe ohmy.gif )

Top tip, Asda value Sardines, it says in tomato sauce (not good) but it has hardly any in but it's more packed with fishes than any other I've done a survey on wink.gif

I'm with Fudds on stuff like Sardines, alot of the dogs will have dryish coaats now as they have been in your house over winter with all the heating etc.
