Darwin LOVES mud, horsepoop and all manner of stinky slimy stuff. We go on a lovely walk through the woods (like today for example) and finds the ONLY manky puddle of slime and lies down in it... so it means that everyday when we get home we go straight upstairs o the bath and get him hosed off.

Where this mandering post is leading to is, How often do YOU wash your dog, and if you don't do it after everywalk how do you cope the with crunchy muddy belly? Is there a non bath way to have a relatively clean pup??

three times this week for stellar - thanks to nice fresh piles of horsepoo!

though rufus has only had one as we have brushed the mud off him when he dries

When they start to smell Doggy!!!!!!!!! wink.gif wink.gif

Never.

Neither of my 3 dogs have ever had a bath in their life.

If they were to get exceptionally dirty I take them down the shore and let them run in the sea but that's as far as it goes.

Fizz has had 2 baths in her lifetime. If she really stinks she gets wiped over with dog version of baby wipes and they smell lovely and clean and nasties off.

Unless we have been somewhere with a lake or a river near the end of a walk mine generally get hosed down when we get home but this is with just water (no shampoo etc) so I don't really consider it a bath. They probably get a proper bath once or twice a year max and even that is outside either in a large baby bath or with the hose pipe, I just call it a bath as its when I use shampoo.

The bottle of puppy shampoo I bought for Rhian is still in it's virginal state! tongue.gif Rhian gets rinsed off if too dirty, that's all. Fortunately, she doesn't roll in poo, and she's not smelly at all. My previous dog got a bath about once a year, when her doggy smell became too strong.

When she rolls in something horrible, which might be 3 times in a fortnight and then not for months (it might even be seasonal, there's a thought). If it's just mud, it seems to drop out when it dries (I daresay the fox poo would do the same, but I prefer not to have that all over the kitchen floor!)

Only when they roll in nasties, then its down to the pond with the biodegradable shampoo wink.gif

Rosie's Friend- 04-05-2008
Rosie loves nothing more than a shower, she jumps into the bath and sits while she is showered. She only has the same only when she is very smelly though, left to her she would love to have it each day.

At the end of each walk, we just shout bath to Brodie and he jumps into the reed water at the car park and splashes around till he gets all the mud off. Then we towel him and he jumps in the back or the car.

With Hamish, (who does not go swimming), he wears a very macho cotton t shirt and at the end of the walk we take it off and hey presto - clean dog laugh.gif

They are only ever washed if they smell really rank and only with human baby shampoo. If a shampoo is not fit for humans because of its chemical content, it's not fit for my dogs. biggrin.gif

Frodo and Ben have both had 2 showers in about 10 months... Only because they were muck personified! Most of the time, the mud just brushes out when they are dry. My hardwood floors look filthier than my dogs when they come back from a good muddy walk!
