Only when they roll here too, although we have quite a lot of ditches around here and Casper is a magnet to them so he probably gets bathed a bit more as im always worried what might be lurking in those ditches! ph34r.gif blink.gif failing that it's a quick rub with baby talc and a brush in the garden then they smell scrumdidlyumtious biggrin.gif

MAMAMIA- 04-05-2008
my two get a rinse after most walks as they get filthy in the stinky slimy puddles etc which we have near us , we don't however always use shampoo.

what is this trick with talc? i've not heard of it before?

Poppy needs showering off after every walk undertaken at low tide - high tide isn't a problem though so we do try and fit walks in around that rolleyes.gif
Jaspers a bit of a persil boy and will only get muddy if other dogs engage him in muddy playtime rolleyes.gif

They get shampooed about every 8 weeks - causes them no problems - they both love a wash.

Poppy is the dirtiest minx going, if its stinky, she'll roll in it rolleyes.gif (thats if she hasnt eaten it first ph34r.gif )

Today madam rolled in poo and she had a part body shower at home, other than that I get her in a stream or some sort of water (plenty of it here in the Highlands rolleyes.gif ) at the end of a walk to get the worst off and that's it.

I'm getting some good ideas here! Thanks, Most of the time Darwin is just hosed off, unless it's the weird red mud we have as just a hosing leaves him still very very pink. So what is the talc trick and what sort of brushes are you guys using to remove the mud?

Old_Dave- 04-05-2008
OK ................... inspired by this thread I'm off to give Millie a bath ............. as she currently resembles a "mud pie" sad.gif .............

................ I may be gone for a while tongue.gif

sometimes when mine come back from the beach or a muddy walk they have a rub down with a bit of talc which is rubbed in their coats mainly where the muddy bits are and this will stick to the mud and dries it quicker then brush out with a slicker brush not only does it take away the magnolia look after they have been in mud but they smell yum, don't do it indoors though coz you will be dusting for weeks tongue.gif

I,m now trying to do planned walks from a point with running water smile.gif as the little fella is predominatley white his under carriage gets minging even on a good track..a plodge in a stream usually shorts this out smile.gif wash him as required to remove other "stuff" he rolled about 5 tmes the other day on a walk couldnt see what it was so I,m suspecting marking blink.gif but he did pen and ink after

He wasnt too impressed with the bath, dont envisage washing him much through the summer, he,s a "natural" swimmer

Helena- 04-06-2008
We try to walk them trough the woods first (they get filthy), out onto the beach (they get wet) then back via sand dunes (the long grass sort of dries them off) - but bath times with shampoo - about once every four months (and thats usually just Loki) the other two have shorter coats and don't seem to smell as much.
