Just wondering when our recall issues are likely to begin? My pup is 6 months old and currently she still has 100% recall. I live a paranoid life though - waiting for the day she ignores me! At the moment she is far more interested in playing with me than with other dogs, and although she will chase birds and bunnies she always comes back when told and will walk to heel when required.

i think Angel was about 18months when i felt like i was right back to square one. I don't know if all springers/dogs go through the phase of "stuff you im doing what i want".

8 months here, and so far so good... though Rufus plays hard to get occasionally if you haven't brought his favourite lead and you want to clip him back on to walk home rolleyes.gif

Sonny has just started to give me the victory sign at the end of the walk, although he wont go any where, just has to circle me once or twice, then sits or lies down about 10 foot away from me, he is just 2 years old,
Cracker is a darling, at 20 months old her recall is 100% 1st time every time, even if theres rabbits involved, she walks to heel perfectly off and on lead, only goes off when i tell her to go play, or find it rolleyes.gif

6 months, 12 months, 18 months, 2 years laugh.gif

seriously, Poppy is pretty good, unless theres a phesant involved and jasper came to us at 14 months with zero recall - he's now excellant!

Rhian started going deaf just before her first season at 8 months. Some weeks on the long line cured it, and she's been pretty good since if I don't let things slip. cool.gif

Around the 8 month mark it started to disappear... Hopefully, touch wood, he has got it back again now. Lots of re-training on his long line, and he managed a recall back from ducklings the other day! I was very impressed wink.gif

Our Eight month old Poppy has Just started to develop selective hearing.
Especially if she picks up the scent of a fox, (There are quite a lot around here!)
the other day she ensconced herself in a load of bracken chasing Rabbits, and try as I may she would not come out (even though I hid myself for fifteen minutes behind a neighbouring bush, I dread to think what anyone would have thought if they had seen me?)
Yet the funny thing is the moment I start to return home she will walk close to me without a fuss and off lead! unsure.gif

Oh yes, 8 months here too. Stan's just coming up to 8 months and over the last couple of weeks he's started to get worse.
He used to be perfect up until then. He could be out of sight, playing with other dogs and he'd still come to call. Very selective at the moment though.
I'm careful where I'm letting him off though and when I want him to come, calling him once and walking off. (Not going to hang around for that little beggar!) He comes soon enough when he realises mum's 100 metres in the opposite direction! biggrin.gif

Im so glad you poseted this as I live in fear that Ghillie will one day give me the V sign and not come back.

Having had so much trouble with Conker's recall Ive put a lot of effort in with Ghillie and am dreading the day he starts to -*test*-('") me.

Ive been reading the gun dog club website and there are some really good tips on how to keep you 100% recall which Ive been swatting up on

SuzyStimpy- 06-01-2008
that sounds good - what is the address for the gundog website?

Conkersmum- 06-03-2008
Its www.thegundogclub.co.uk

If you join the forum there is a section in Gun Dog Training on recall.
