Following on from my last question (sorry guys) can i give him bones with meat on as he would love this and it would keep him busy. What bones are safe as he is 8 months old?

Yes Sandra, please give him bones, he can eat rib bones, trotters, chicken carcasses etc, keep away from marrow bones and beef rib bones, go for lamb, pork ribs with plenty of meat on them ALL RAW, do not cook them!!!!!!! Now if you can do this you are half way to feeding him a raw diet so where's the problem eh!

just to carry on Sandy's list...chicken wings, lamb breast, lamb ribs, rabbit, pork ribs...raw fish if he likes it. There must be plenty meat round, add a raw egg twice a week or more as well. I posted a few links recently...off to find the thread...third post down , plenty to read.

Rabbit - Sandra - do you know anyone near you who goes hunting? If not it is worth asking around. That way you could get them cheap and dogs love them.

And find out if there are any butchers near you who do specialised chicken dishes. They usually strip the chicken carcasses themselves to use the meat to sell to customers and bin the carcasses. You could place an order for a bag each week.

My butcher now charges me £1 per bag because other people are catching on to BARF feeding and placing orders - meanie that he is - before we came along he had to pay to have the carcasses taken away.

chicken is great meat with soft bone
Beef bones give my two the runs
so i don't feed it to them its all a learning curve lol.
They can eat anything but beef just doesn't seem to agree with them.

Just think RAW MEATY BONES Meaty is the key word more meat than bone and you cant go wrong.

Feeding RAW to me has nothing to do with bones . I don't feed my two bones I feed them meat with bone in.

I started Rhian on chicken necks and then went on to calf bones, as these are not too hard and were available in conveniently sawn up portions.

As for beef or chicken: this depends on your dog. As nowadays chicken is more often fed, allergies and intolerances increase, as they did formerly with beef. You'll just have to try and find out. I started Rhian on raw beef before she got any raw chicken, but I've never had a dog with food intolerancies yet - I would worry about this only if the problem ever arose. Bones are another matter; if a dog gets sick from bones it doesn't mean it can't tolerate the meat from that animal! Some dogs apparently just can't deal with bones unless theyr'e ground. But they still can enjoy fresh meat and benefit from it, even if bones are a no go for them!

RAW FEEDING has nothing to do with feeding your dogs bones ground or whole.
My two are thriving and I dont feed them bones .They have never been given just a bone to eat even if it did have a small amount of meat on it.They eat either the whole prey ie rabbit or meat with soft bone in it ie chicken, belly pork with bone in, breast of lamb with bone in pork ribs.The only meat that they eat without bone is offal. Recreational bone is a pigs trotter and even this has meat on it they prob have this once a month this is only a tooth cleaner not a food.
Forget about bones if you want to raw feed erase bones from your mind .
Think about feeding your dog meat on the bone think about how you eat meat ie a pork chop only diff is we cook it and throw away the bone. Feed your dog a Raw MEATY Bone

Jrow1, did I doubt anywhwere that your dogs are thriving? I merely pointed out that one needs to find out what suits the individual dog, and that one can always find something suitable.

I apologise for using the word RAW; I didn't realise that it is not allowed to call raw meat raw if the dog is not fed on RMB exclusively. I find it odd that these various schools of thought about feeding a dog (Barf, RAW,.....) make themselves so rigid. I had thought raw feeding is a general term but apparently it is not. What IS the general term then to use?

I do feed my dog a raw - oops, sorry - uncooked meaty bone, by the way!

Never said that you doubted that my dogs were thriving .
Sometimes I wonder whether to answer a post . If we were talking face to face we could get our point across .





.All I was trying to put across is that when peeps ask what bones can I feed my dog or what bones are safe and this WAS the question for this topic. From my exp and talking to peeps when I tell them I feed raw they think I throw a raw bone to my dogs. People who are asking questions on here are after information which we all try to give. Great info from all types of feeding raw or barf
