Hi,
Oliver will be 10 months in October and is still entire. The last time he was at the vets she suggested that he stays entire as he is quite a nervous boy and would benefit from it.
He doesnt "hump" anything and is very calm and gentle. Do you think it would be wise to not neuter him at all or can this have medical issues.
As he has been under GA quite a few times i didnt want to put him through this again if it really wasnt necesary.
Any advise would be very much welcome.

Roly is 14 months and still entire.

We have recently noticed him maturing and starting to assert himself more with other dogs - don't get me wrong, he's not aggressive at all, he's very non-confrontational - but just lately we've noticed he doesn't let other dogs walk all over him - he used to roll over and be all submissive but now he stands his ground and will be vocal if pushed around - he then walks away with his head held high! He is very gentle with smaller puppies but now tells them when he's had enough ear pulling etc whereas until recently he would just lay down and look at us pleadingly to take them away!

We did lots of research (there are some well balanced old discussion threads on the subject on here) and our personal conculsion is that castration will eliminate/reduce the risk of some nasties but castrated dogs are then susceptible to other nasties anyway.

So our choice has been that Roly ain't broke so don't need fixing!

However, if health or behaviour reasons as time goes on necessitate castration then we won't hold back from doing what is best for Roly.

Good luck with your decision - I am sure you will find the best way ahead for you and Oliver biggrin.gif

I got sam neutered when he was about a year. He was always humping visitors and my leg smile.gif I dont feel it changed his personality in any way. The only thing i have noticed is some male dogs try to mount him. I dont know why this is!
Good luck with your decision biggrin.gif

Racer stills has his bits, but to be honest you don't notice. He can't be around any dog in season, but that's the only downside. If he took to humping things it would be a different matter. Murphy was done when he had his hernia op. Both my dogs could be described as slightly nervous, and they are both getting better as time goes on, so personally it doesn't seem to matter if they've got balls or not!

Probably does help you at all! biggrin.gif
